Cragside House
Close to Rothbury is Cragside House, late home to the Armstrong family who paid the price of being rich by having to give it to The National Trust in lieu of death duties. Cragside House is famous as its the first house to have its own hydro-electric generator and for the over 1 million trees Lord Armstrong planted. Brinkburn and Wallington Hall are also near to Rothbury.
Alnwick Castle
Alnwick Castle is steeped in history as the Dukes of Northumberland were involved in a lot of blood letting as the buffer between England and Scotland prior to the Act of Union. However in recent years Alnwick Castle has been most famously known for its appearance in the Harry Potter movies as Hoggwarts! There are many other castles in Northumberland some still inhabited but other just leave their haunted remains!
Alnwick Gardens
Alnwick gardens created by the current Duchess of Northumberland but a whole lot more tranquil than Alnwick Castle. Alnwick gardens are fascinating for the whole family.
Lady's Well
Lady's Well at holystone (near to Rothbury) is an ancient attractive well, though to have been constructed by the romans on the site of a magnificent natural spring. Lady's Well is a beautiful day out for a family.
Fishing
The River Coquet, which runs through the village is ideal for fishing, it holds a good head of brown trout and has Spring and Autumn runs of salmon and sea trout. Several local waters are stocked with rainbow and blue trout and there are both coarse and sea fishing venues within easy reach of Rothbury.
Golf
Rothbury is now home to its own golf course (Rothbury Golf Course) where you can complete 18 holes all within walking distance of the Riverside Lodges. Residents of the lodge will receive a discounted rate so its worth a visit.
Other than Rothbury Golf Course, there are also many other golf courses within an hours drive ranging from the internationally renowned Slaley and Matfen Halls to the recently complete. You could easily play 36 different holes a day throughout your stay!
Walking
Rothbury is an ideal centre for walking with Hadrian's Wall less than an hour away, The Cheviot provide ideal walking expeditionsand are just 30mins down the road. Simonside is also very closeby which has a number of beautiful walks.
Cycling
A great way to explore the are is by clcling. Loads of trails and cycles for hire locally if you didn't bring one.
